Review: Wicked Kiss (Nightwatchers #2) by Michelle Rowen

I'm waving little Kraven banners right after I finished reading this book. With the current trend of disappointing finishes for books in a series, I was so relieved that Wicked Kiss had such a fantastic ending to it.

Summary:

MY KISS CAN KILL.

I used to be ordinary Samantha Day, but that's changed. Now, after one dark kiss from a dangerous boy, I can steal someone's soul...or their life. If I give in to the constant hunger inside me, I hurt anyone I kiss. If I don't...I hurt myself.

Bishop is the one whose kiss I crave most, but if I kiss him, I'll kill him. Then there's another boy, one I can't hurt. One whose kiss seems to miraculously quell my hunger. They're both part of a team of angels and demons that's joined forces in my city to fight a mysterious rising darkness, an evil that threatens everyone I know and love. I just wonder if I'll be able to help Bishop-or if I'm just another part of the darkness he's sworn to destroy....

NIGHTWATCHERS

When angels and demons must work together, something beyond evil is rising...

Sam is now a gray, her soul stolen, and with one kiss she can kill. Literally. Now she craves for Bishop's kiss, and having sucked out a part of his soul, Bishop is now drawn to her more than ever. Her search for Stephen to get her soul back intensifies, and a new addition to the team complicates things further. Sam's destiny and the role she plays to save her city is finally revealed. The question is, will she help save it, or be the one to destroy them all?

Our favorite angels and demons are back, and this time with reinforcements. Bishop gets a little bit crazier as the days pass by and Kraven's getting closer to getting his head cut off by pissing off Bishop. It's one of the highlights of my read: Bishop and Kraven trying to best each other, see who's going to lose his mind first from all the taunts they get from one another. I appreciate those parts more, given the history between Bishop and Kraven and what they are to each other. It makes me think like it's a way of showing love, beneath all the taunting and sarcastic replies they throw each others way. Little by little their pasts are revealed along with Sam's gradual discovery of her abilities as a gray and as something else, something far more stronger. I find myself holding my breath on key parts, wondering what else will be revealed and if the revelations were to be believed or not.

If you liked Kraven in Dark Kiss, you'll love him more in this second book. He's the type of guy who I wouldn't mind ending up with Sam, but it's not something I really want to happen because I still liked Bishop far more than I liked Kraven, personality and background wise. Bishop might be a little deranged because of his soul, but he's kind. Deep down, Kraven is too. He's your typical nice guy trying to become the bad boy. And Bishop was the nice boy who became evil because of a dark, unfortunate twist of fate. Along with Kraven's and Bishop's, the author was able to shed some light on the other angels and demons' personalities somewhat, without shifting the main focus of the story away from Sam and her search for her soul. Though I am undecided whether I like Cassandra, the new angel, and the developments between her and Roth because it felt a little bit unnecessary and spontaneous, the addition of a new character added a bit more conflict and helped piece the story together neatly given their roles in the mission they had to fulfill.

Wicked Kiss is definitely a lot more fun and entertaining to read than Dark Kiss. Just when you thought it was over, you get one final surprise and feel so satisfied at the end. The twists are something you can predict, but once they're right in front of your eyes, you just find yourself gripping the book and waiting to see what happens next. It's more action packed, the conflicts are more complicated, it's got more romantic scenes, more intense happenings and more nerve wracking moments. It's got everything you want Dark Kiss to have and more. Wicked Kiss switches from a lot of funny moments to something dark and heavy and readers will have to get used at how unstable the atmosphere can get in the book, but it's something one can enjoy. I have lost count of how many times I have laughed out loud because of this book. Definitely entertaining to the very end!

Michelle Rowen was able to create a very nice build up that will lead to a very satisfying and sweet ending. I can't ask for anything more, the ending was open ended and it leaves a lot of possibilities should there be a third book in the series.

Content (plot, story flow, character):
I would have given this a five if I didn't feel like the developments between Roth and Cassandra were a little bit out of place. I felt like if it was supposed to be an integral part of the story, it should have been explored a little bit more. Was it insta love? On the other hand, I really just love Kraven. I'm sorry, Bishop but your brother stole the spotlight from you in this novel.

Book Cover:
Hi there, Sam! I would like it better if it was Kraven (what does he look like anyway?) in the cover, but this one works too!
